How easy is this to store?

It folds to be relatively flat, but even when the legs are in the shortest position, it is quite long. Removing the bottom halves of the legs (they slide in/out easily) helps to make the unit shorter for storage.

Can this be used in landscape orientation as well?

No. The brackets on the back only allow for portrait.
